We continue a full national operation to get food to vulnerable people during the COVID-19 crisis.

What food will I have access to?

This will be subject to your storage, kitchen and service provision, as well as collection times. You will be informed of the type of food you can collect (either Category A or Category B) by the FareShare representative who visits you.

Category A
Ambient only
Organisations that have ambient storage only (no fridge or freezer), with limited, infrequent or no cooking facilities. This includes organisations who offer food parcels such as food banks.
Category B
Chilled & ambient
Organisations who cook on site and have full kitchen facilities including fridge and freezer.
Organisations who redistribute food, with access to a temperature-controlled fridge.
Category C
Chilled, frozen & ambient
Organisations who cook on site and have full kitchen facilities including fridge and freezer.
Organisations who redistribute food, with access to a temperature-controlled fridge & freezer.

Food Safety Guidance
Preparing and Cooking Food

If your organisation will be preparing or cooking the food, rather than only offering it as food parcels, FareShare has a couple of food safety requirements to ensure that all food is handled safely and appropriately. The FareShare representative who visits you will check that these requirements are in place.

1. At least one volunteer or member of staff must hold a Level 2 certificate in Food Safety and Catering. All other food handlers should be knowledgeable of food hygiene requirements and have had the appropriate training.

2. Your kitchen premises must be registered with the local Environmental Health Authority. Use this link to find out where to register: https://www.gov.uk/food-business-registration

Here is a list of things that you will need within your food preparation and cooking area:

Storage

Your donations must be stored appropriately:

Donations may contain allergens: In the event of an allergic reaction seek immediate medical attention! To identify allergens, please see the original labels on the food or use the Food Standards Agency Guidelines: www.food.gov.uk/sites/default/files/multimedia/pdfs/publication/loosefoodsleaflet.pdf
